8 Must-Do Activities at LEGOLAND® California

Whether you are a LEGO®* enthusiast or a parent of one (or many!), there’s something for everyone at LEGOLAND® California. The family-centric amusement park is located just north of San Diego in Carlsbad. The ideal age range for LEGOLAND® runs between 2-12 years old, yet boasts loads of fun for the whole family. Grab your sunscreen for the California sunshine, a few LEGO® figurines, and enthusiasm for colorful bricks as you experience a theme park unlike any other.

With over 60 different attractions to choose from, it’s hard to choose which should be your top picks.  Lucky for you, we’re experts in family fun and outlined eight must-do activities that will make your trip one to remember.

  1. Splish Splash at the Water Park
Kiddos of all ages will love cooling off in fun LEGO®-themed aquatic activities under the sun. From tube slides and pirate reefs to splash pads for toddlers, the Water Park is a must-do for warm afternoons. Any LEGOLAND®ticket can be upgraded to include Water Park admission. The water park is open during the warm months (March to October) so look at their schedule ahead of time for availability.

  2. Participate in Driving School
Vroom vroom! Kids can earn their driver’s license at Junior Driving School (ages 3-5) or at Driving School (6-12), where they navigate the rules of the California roads. Both of these rides are a great way for kids to have fun in the sun while racing to earn their rights to the roads.

  3. Deep Sea Adventure
The Deep Sea Adventure ride is a new, one-of-a-kind attraction in LEGOLAND® that will take you on a submarine ride for a fun, interactive underwater adventure where you will get to see exciting marine life including sharks, rays, and assorted fish.Unlike any other marine ride in a California theme park, you are an underwater explorer looking for treasure surrounded by real, live fish! And, of course, in addition to the cool sea creatures, the seabed is adorned with awesome LEGO® creations.

  4. Don't Miss Miniland
A true LEGO® enthusiast’s fantasy, Miniland is certainly a must-see for all guests of LEGOLAND® California. This impressive experience will make even the LEGO® faint of heart a fan of the tiny bricks. Historic landmarks such as the Washington D.C. Capitol building, Golden Gate Bridge of San Francisco, Vegas highlights, New York City, and Star Wars notorious characters are built to mini-scale in a world all of their own. is certainly a must-see for all guests of LEGOLAND California. 5. Unwind at Castle Hill
Let the little ones run free after a full day of fun at Castle Hill, and step back into a medieval time of flying dragons, jousts and magnificent castles filled with knights and princesses. They can enjoy the Hideaways attraction and climb up, crawl through, slide down, cross over and swing around on ropes, ladders and tunnels. Fun for all ages – this is definitely a must-see.

  6. LEGO Build and Test
How can you go to LEGOLAND® without an opportunity to show your talent in putting these iconic, colorful blocks together for a work of art? Here’s a creative indoor activity both parents and children will appreciate. Located in Fun Town, the LEGO® Build and Test lets your kids show off their LEGO® building skills and put their creations to the test in a racing competition against other builders’ masterpieces! Keep in mind the kids may be here for a while but that’s good news for parents sit back and take a break from the sun.

  7. Be Sure to “Sea” the Aquarium
Stay an extra day and let your kids explore a wide world of sea life with hands-on learning, fascinating educational talks and up-close encounters with sea creatures including sharks, octopi and rays! Any LEGOLAND ticket can be upgraded to include the SEA LIFE Aquarium admission. With so much to discover, you might just spend a large portion of your day here, so, next time you come to visit the LEGOLAND theme park, extend the fun for one extra day with the whole family as you explore the SEA LIFE Aquarium.

  8. Savor Granny's Apple Fries
A crowd favorite, Granny’s Apple Fries are a must if you’re looking for a yummy treat to enjoy as you walk through the park. Found near Castle Hill, these deep-fried delectable apples coated in cinnamon and sugar and topped with delicious vanilla cream as a dipping sauce to are to die for!

Tips to enhance your LEGOLAND® adventure:

  2. The Reserve ‘N’ Ride option allows you to reserve your spot without actually being in line perfect for those with small children. Cost of the service depends on the percentage of wait time you’d like to reduce.

  3. Get your shopping on. LEGOLAND® offers a service to hold items purchased at the park until you’re ready to leave.

  4. Whether you opt for Water Park tickets or not, it would be wise to take extra clothes along for you and the kids.

  5. You can trade your LEGO® figurines for new ones at the park. The friendly staff, called “Model Citizens”, will trade replicas of their character with your little ones there are also many areas at the park to trade.

  6. Consider a VIP Experience where you can enjoy an exclusive behind-the-scenes immersion into the park, which includes park admission, valet parking, a host for the day, front of the line access, and much more.

  7. Go early for more play time and less wait time!
